AWS Elemental MediaConnect

AWS Elemental MediaConnect is a transport service for live video. Using MediaConnect, you can build live video processing workflows and securely share content with your partners and customers, all using the AWS Cloud. MediaConnect takes your high-quality video from one source and sends it to one or more destinations. MediaConnect adds a quality-of-service layer over standard IP transport, enabling uninterrupted live video connections by using packet recovery, and it supports industry-standard video encryption.

Combines the best of satellite, fiber and IP

MediaConnect uses a dedicated quality-of-service layer on top of standard IP transport. This allows it to deliver the reliability and security of satellite and fiber-optic networks, while avoiding their long lead times, and limited agility and scalability.

Manage high-value live broadcasts

Get real-time critical video quality metrics, with broadcast-standard alerts to identify issues and maintain confidence that video is delivered. Workflows can be built without single points of failure, and distribution controlled using industry-standard encryption.

Connect remote production applications

AWS Cloud Digital Interface (CDI) workflows can connect production switchers, graphics engines, and other components running in the cloud. Signals can be distributed globally and to other AWS accounts without the need for a dedicated infrastructure or specialized devices.

Our work with MediaConnect

We designed and delivered a cloud platform for My5, Channel 5’s on-demand TV service. Our solution depends on AWS MediaConnect to distribute live video content to smart TVs, mobiles, and third-party apps.

Compared to the previous system, we were able to reduce costs, enhance availability and scalability, and significantly reduce the cost and complexity of Channel 5’s disaster recovery plan for the service.

This has allowed Channel 5 to become the first public broadcaster to achieve rollout of the new Freely TV format, which is scheduled to become an integral part of mainline linear TV experience over the next few years. (edited)
